A recent report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and other international organizations has highlighted a concerning global trend in food insecurity, with an estimated 720 million to 811 million people going hungry in 2020 due to rising food prices and the impact of the pandemic on food supply chains. The report underscores the severe food price hikes in various countries, including Brazil and Nigeria, where the prices of staple foods have surged by 70% and 87% respectively over the past year, affecting millions of consumers. The situation is further worsened by the global consumer price index hitting a 13-year high in June, with food prices experiencing a 10-year high, escalating the financial strain on consumers and leading to concerns about the stability of food supply and access to food, particularly in low-income communities.
