The Government distributes the fishing quotas for the Atlantic mackerel

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has distributed the mackerel quota among the Atlantic fleet, ahead of the opening of the fishery. The distribution of the Atlantic mackerel (verdeal or xarda) is detailed in three resolutions, published this Saturday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which establish the initial quotas by modality or census. This is the distribution that the General Secretariat of Fisheries of MAPA announced to the fleet last week, due to the lack of agreement with countries such as Norway or the United Kingdom, which have allocated quota for the species in waters they share with the European Union (EU). The initial mackerel quota will amount to 6,563 tons for Spanish vessels (-70% compared to 2025), but, as announced by Fisheries, Spain has reached exchange agreements with other countries and has applied interannual flexibility, so the quota rises to 9,475.24 tons.
