The Japanese scallop production season has basically ended, with total production exceeding 300,000 tons

The 2024 Hokkaido scallop production season in Japan has come to an end. As of the end of November, the total production was 303,200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4%. The Sea of Okhotsk is one of the two largest production areas in Japan, the other being Funka Bay. In terms of production, 2024 is the sixth consecutive year that the production capacity exceeds 300,000 tons, which is lower than the initial target of 308,000 tons and lower than the 319,700 tons in the previous season. In the northern region of Wakkanai, all fishery cooperative operations were completed at the end of November, and the total production reached 119,300 tons, which was basically the same as last year.
