(Hongcheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hak = The "23rd Hongcheon Ginseng and Hanwoo Premium Festival" and the "10th Hongcheon Apple Festival," which combined the region's representative specialties of ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples, officially kicked off on the afternoon of the 2nd.
This year's festival, themed "Healthy Food, Happy Festival," was held over four days from October 30 in the Tori Forest area of Hongcheon-eup Urban Forest Park.
From the opening day, a large crowd gathered, and the festival became extremely busy over the weekend, establishing itself as the region's representative autumn festival.
Hongcheon County and the Hongcheon Culture Foundation tentatively estimated that the festival generated 1.6 billion won in sales from ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples.
Revenue from subsidiary operations such as local food restaurants and experience booths exceeded 200 million won.
In particular, this year marked the first time the two festivals were held together, and the integration was deemed a success.
Menus using local ingredients at local food restaurants were well-received as "high-quality, affordable premium restaurants," and six-year-old ginseng and Hongcheon's brand of Hanwoo beef, "Neulpeum Hanwoo," were sold at a discount of up to 50% per cut, attracting popularity.
The "Hanwoo Burger Tasting Event," limited to 300 per day, sold out early in the festival, and the "Ten Thousand Won of Happiness (with Massage)" and "Ginseng Auction Event" also became popular programs.
Additionally, performances by famous singers during the festival further boosted the festive atmosphere.
Jeon Myeong-jun, Director of the Hongcheon Culture Foundation, said, "This year's festival was prepared as a premium festival of healthy food, combining ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples, making it more abundant," and added, "In the future, we will develop it into a practical and sustainable regional economic festival where local farmers and merchants grow together."
