Spain: Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food makes the 2020 organic production data public

By species, farms dedicated to sheep meat (-3%, to 1,879 farms) and goats (-5%, to 463) decreased, although those dedicated to raising rabbits (+33%, only there are 4), chickens (+7%, up to 111), sheep milk (+9%, up to 119) and goats (+5%, up to 203). However, the number of head of cattle increased especially in pigs (+17%, up to 37,846 animals), sheep, goats and dairy cattle (+7%, +15% and +10%, respectively) and in poultry meat (+ 5%, up to just over 1.6 million animals) and laying (+13%, up to 943,106 animals). Spain is the first European country in terms of surface area and organic production and the third in the world -behind Australia and Argentina-. For this reason, it is in a position to meet in 2030 the objective, set in the European Green Pact, of allocating 25% of agricultural land to organic production, also in line with the ecological transformation agenda of this Government, according to Luis Flat.
