The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers-Exporters of the Region of Murcia (Proexport) is optimistic about the upcoming melon and watermelon campaign in Spain, expecting a recovery from the volumetric decline of the previous season. The crops are reportedly in great condition, with normal development expected. Harvesting is expected to begin in early June. The region has similar crop areas to last year, with around 3,000 hectares of melon and 2,400 hectares of watermelon. In 2023, Spanish melon exports totaled 320,346 tons, with Murcia being the main exporter, and watermelon exports rose to 678,822 tons.
