The article reports an outbreak of the H5N1 strain of bird flu at a liver duck farm in Pusztaszer, Csongrád-Csanád county, Hungary, leading to mass bird culling and the imposition of strict control measures by local authorities to curb the spread of the disease. These measures include limiting the issuance of introduction permits for livestock from affected districts for slaughter, and mandating the closure of poultry farms in high-risk counties to prevent the spread of the disease further. Additionally, it is recommended that non-commercial poultry keepers in these areas provide covered feeding and watering points, or keep their birds indoors to minimize contact with wild birds and prevent the disease from spreading. The article emphasizes the collective responsibility of livestock owners, sector stakeholders, and authorities to contain the epidemic and eradicate the highly pathogenic bird flu from Hungary without delay.
