The upcoming Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the European Union (EU) meeting on October 21 and 22, in Luxembourg, will focus on key issues such as the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and tuna fishing quotas. Spanish Minister, Luis Planas, emphasized Spain's role in advocating for EU interests, particularly in conserving Atlantic tunas and upholding current bigeye tuna quotas. He also underscores Spain's stance against revisiting the bluefin tuna distribution key for TACs and quotas until 2025. Furthermore, the meeting will discuss the conclusion document on the CAP's future, which Spain has backed for its proposed simplifications and the need for a monitoring focus on achieving objectives and assessing interventions' real contribution. Planas is also pushing for enhanced tools to tackle the agricultural and livestock impacts of catastrophic climatic events and to improve trade policy coherence with sustainability and agricultural goals.
