On 07/11/2025, the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) announced that the country will resume rice imports starting January of the following year. The new tariff for imported rice will be decided in mid-December of this year. This decision was made after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Executive Order No. 102, extending the import ban on regular milled rice and well-milled rice until December 31, 2025. The import ban was first issued by President Marcos in August and was initially set to be effective until October 30, 2025. Mr. Tiu Laurel said: "On the issue of tariffs, I do not advocate for immediately returning the tariff to 35%." He added: "Because if we start buying while currently not buying from the global markets, international prices will rise. Therefore, if we immediately increase the tariff to 35%, consumers will be affected."
