The piglet reaches the lowest figure of the last three years

September ends with new drops in the prices of fattened animals, and the decrease now totals three consecutive months with declines and stands at its lowest level of the year, 9.5% below the same week last year, to achieve a competitive price against European markets. The supply, which continues to increase both in the number of animals and in weight, exceeds demand, putting downward pressure on quotations. The imposition of tariffs on exports to China forces declines in European markets, both for meat, which has to compete against its excess supply, and for live cattle, which, once summer is over, increases its availability. Furthermore, the price of piglets has been falling for two weeks and is positioned 26.1% lower than a year ago. The weakness of fattening opposes the increases in the price of feeder pigs.
