A network of institutions in Argentina and Uruguay has conducted a monitoring study to track the presence of the corn pest, D. maidis, using adhesive chromatic traps. The study, covering various regions in Argentina and Uruguay, has found a notable decrease in the pest in many areas, with over 94% and 97% of locations in the Central North and Central South regions, respectively, not recording any significant captures. The results vary across different regions, with some showing an increase in pest numbers, particularly in areas with volunteer corn. The network stresses the importance of continuing control measures, including the use of traps and direct monitoring, to further reduce the pest's incidence and prevent corn stunting.
