A new act passed by the Sejm of Poland is set to streamline the animal identification and registration system to combat infectious diseases. The Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARMA) will oversee the management of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, equidae, cervids, camelids, and poultry establishments for EU compliance. Horse breeders' associations will continue issuing identification documents for specific breeds and will convey the data to ARMA. The act also mandates electronic reporting of animal-related events, introduces an electronic passport system for cattle, and allows poviat veterinarians to cull unidentified animals to protect public and animal health. The regulations are expected to be enforced 14 days after their announcement.
