The retail price of a liter of popular Turkish alcoholic drink raki has increased to almost 1 thousand liras, or $34, due to a 25.6% increase in special consumption tax since 2024. This tax increase, along with a 20% VAT, has contributed to the higher retail cost of raki. In addition to alcoholic beverages, fuel prices in Turkey have also increased, leading to long lines at gas stations as motorists rush to stock up before prices rise further.
