The price of currants in Ukraine doubled due to a low harvest

This year, Ukrainians are facing a sharp increase in prices for one of their favorite summer berries — currants. This is reported by the Telegraph. In 2024, the value of this berry has more than doubled compared to last year. If a few years ago, currants cost only 12 hryvnias per kilogram, now their price has reached 70 hryvnias due to a decrease in the harvest caused by adverse weather conditions, in particular, spring frosts. Experts note that large currant farms with plantations of 20 hectares or more were able to better adapt to market conditions. Such farms, equipped with mechanical means of collection and care, remain more profitable than grain crops. Currant prices in Ukrainian supermarkets have also increased significantly. For example, in the "Silpo" network, 100 grams of black currants costs 44.90 hryvnias, and red currants - 14.31 hryvnias.
