The price of finished starch in Tay Ninh, Vietnam has remained stable due to a decrease in China's purchases and domestic demand caused by the Covid-19 epidemic. The outbreak of the epidemic has also limited cassava imports from Cambodia to Vietnam. Despite the spread of cassava disease in farming areas, the yield remains high. From January to May 2021, cassava starch exports reached 836,460 tons, worth $385.01 million, a decrease in volume but increase in value compared to the previous year. China is the largest market for Vietnam's cassava starch, but China has recently reduced imports of cassava starch from Vietnam while increasing imports from Thailand, despite the higher import price of Thai starch.
