The article explains the significant increase in sunflower prices in Bulgaria, following a poor crop and the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. Since July 8, prices have risen by over 160 BGN per ton, reaching 940-955 BGN/t delivered to Varna, the highest since early March 2023. This increase is largely due to the rising price of crude sunflower oil on the global market. The reluctance of Ukrainian farmers to sell sunflowers has further increased pressure, leading to a shortage and potential reconsideration of other crops.
