In 2025, the presence of foreign cheeses on the domestic market increased from 38% to 45% and, if the current trend continues, as early as March-April 2026, the share of Ukrainian products may drop below the critical mark of 50%. This was stated by the executive director of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (UDEU) Arsen Didur. According to him, the situation on the cheese market has become critical for food security in Ukraine, so the government needs to respond promptly. The head of the association believes that in the absence of prospects for investigations against European suppliers due to political factors, the authorities should shift their focus to increasing state support for local producers. According to the UDEU, the volume of rennet cheese imports into Ukraine in 2025 increased by 13% and amounted to 32.9 thousand tons, including 15.8 thousand tons of hard cheese (+14%). Currently, the government is considering an initiative from the UDEU to increase compensation under the "National Cashback" program for Ukrainian-made cheeses from 10% to 20%.
