The share of domestic sugar beet seeds in Russia's agricultural sector has reached 25% for the first time

The process of import substitution for agricultural seeds in Russia is in full swing. For the first time in the country, a 25% share of domestic breeding seeds for sugar beet has been achieved, TASS was told by RAS Academician, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology Gennady Karlov on the sidelines of the international scientific conference PlantGen-2025. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has set a task of 75% self-sufficiency in seeds for all major agricultural crops by 2030. One of the lowest indicators in the domestic agro-industrial complex is sugar beet, a technical crop with high sugar content in its roots. "For most major crops, where everything was quite bad, such as sugar beet, if previously there were about 0% of domestic breeding seeds, now this year we are already reaching 25% in the country.
