The Spanish food and beverage industry experienced a slowdown in growth for the second year in a row in 2023, with production decreasing by 2.6% to 162,459 million euros, as reported by the FIAB. This was due to inflation, adverse climatic conditions, and a global economic instability. The sector, however, remained the leading industrial sector in Spain, with a Gross Added Value of 31,038 million euros. The number of companies in the sector fell by 6% in 2023, and while exports increased by 3.4% to 47,620 million euros, the growth rate was the lowest in recent years due to economic insecurity, inflation, and logistical issues. The EU continued to be the primary destination for Spanish food and beverage exports, accounting for 61.8% of the total.
