The sunflower harvest in Andalusia, Spain, has yielded an 'acceptable' production of 218,000 tons, despite water shortages and climatic factors that have reduced yields by 1.3% from 2023. The cultivated area in Spain has seen a minimal decrease of 0.2% annually. The harvest's performance was influenced by insufficient winter rainfall and varied sowing dates. Spain, which consumes double the amount of sunflower oil it produces, imports half of it from Russia and Ukraine. The president of the Spanish Sunflower Association, Juan Fernández, is calling for improved distribution of agricultural subsidies for sunflower cultivation.
