With the third quarter of the year closed, the supply of animals destined for slaughter appears to mark a first change in trend. However, it is not yet possible to determine if we are indeed facing a structural change that anticipates a beginning of retention or if, in reality, it is only a temporary retreat caused by the high volatility that the market has acquired in recent weeks and —in this context— by the uncertainty inherent in a pre-election scenario. The fact is that the data anticipated by the pace of animal transfers to slaughter plants have already been officially confirmed, with a total slaughter of 1,169,120 heads in September. Although, in absolute numbers, this figure represents practically the same number of animals slaughtered in August, when adjusted on a daily basis —taking into account the number of working days in each monthly period— a significant drop is observed: 8.3% compared to the previous month and 7.7% compared to what was recorded a year ago.
