The surplus of the European Union's (EU) agri-food trade increased by 19% in July compared to June, reaching 4.6 billion euros in the seventh month of 2025, according to data published this Thursday by the European Commission (EC). The surplus figure is, however, 23% lower than that recorded in July of last year. Moreover, between January and July, the surplus reached 26.5 billion euros, a reduction of 12.2 billion euros compared to the same period in 2024, mainly due to the increase in prices of EU imports, particularly cocoa and coffee. The community executive indicated in a statement that agri-food exports from the Twenty-Seven reached 20.7 billion euros last July, 8% more than in June and "approximately stable" when compared to the seventh month of 2024. In the first seven months of the current year, exports reached 139.4 billion euros, an increase of 2.7 billion (2% more) compared to the same period in 2024, largely due to higher prices.
