The EU-funded BreedingValue and FRIETS projects are working to improve the sustainability, quality, and shelf-life of berry crops. Led by Professor Bruno Mezzetti, BreedingValue aims to increase the genetic diversity of berries to enhance their resilience to climate change, while maintaining consumer-preferred characteristics. The project involves 20 partners across eight European countries and studies a wide range of plant material. Meanwhile, scientists at the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomic Research are part of the FRIETS project, developing new dehydration methods to extend the berries' shelf life and create healthier snacks.
