The US imposes a 50% tariff on most Brazilian products affecting the meat sector

The United States government announced a new 50% tariff on Brazilian products, including meats, coffee, and fruits, set to begin on August 6, 2025. The measure was formalized through an Executive Order published by the White House. The tariff consists of an additional 40% on the base rate of 10% already applied previously. However, certain products were excluded from the new charge, such as orange juice, civilian aircraft, iron ore, cellulose, energy, and fertilizers. Added to the current 26.4% tariff applied to beef, the total tax burden would exceed 76%, compromising the economic viability of exports to the North American market, which imported 229 thousand tons in 2024. For 2025, the forecast was to reach 400 thousand tons.
