The average price of dozen eggs in the US doubled between December 2021 and December 2022, reaching $4.25, due to a combination of factors. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia led to a decrease in grain exports, increasing the cost of chicken feed. This was further compounded by increases in the prices of electricity and gas for crop transport. Additionally, bird flu outbreaks in the US led to a significant decrease in the number of chickens, impacting egg production. High demand, despite the high prices, also contributed to the increase in egg prices.
