The Obispo Colombres Agroindustrial Experimental Station (Eeaoc) reports a significant increase in sugarcane production for the 2024 harvest in Tucumán, with an estimated 20.45 billion tons of raw sugarcane, up from 15 million tons last year. This is expected to result in a record production of 1.97 million tons of sugar equivalent. Of the total, 750,000 tons will be used for seed, leaving 19.7 billion tons for milling. The increase in harvestable area is notable in Leales and Simoca, with new sugarcane plantations replacing some citrus fields. Currently, eight mills are operational, having processed 564,230 tons of raw cane to produce 26,000 tons of sugar and 9.59 million liters of alcohol, with more mills in Salta and Jujuy expected to start soon.
