REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- The Indonesian Sugarcane Research Institute (P3GI) assesses that the acceleration of national sugar self-sufficiency faces a number of challenges in 2025–2026. P3GI researcher, Danang Permadhi, conveyed that in the last five years, the trend in national sugar production has remained in deficit, so the target of self-sufficiency in consumption has not been achieved. He revealed that the government and sugar industry players are racing against time to meet the self-sufficiency target. However, on the ground, there are many structural constraints that need to be addressed immediately so that sugarcane productivity can increase significantly. “For this year and next year, we are really challenged.
