The system, funded by the European Union's AL-INVEST Green program, will allow ranchers and exporters of meat and leather to guarantee the socio-environmental traceability of their production, in line with Regulation 1115/2023 on deforestation-free products (EUDR), which is set to come into effect in January 2027. Currently, around 200 producers representing approximately 1,500,000 heads of cattle are part of Paraguay's Animal Traceability System. In turn, thanks to the Animal Identification System of Paraguay, implemented by the National Service for Animal Health and Quality, the country already has over 4 million bovines with individual identification, which is approximately 30% of the national cattle herd.
