The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has reopened exports for Almería peppers from Spain, following a closure due to the detection of the Mediterranean fruit fly. The decision comes after successful coordination between the Spanish administration, the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organizations, and interested export companies. Firms such as ZOI Agrícola, Ejidomar, Agroiris, Freshcover and Frutas el Monarca will resume pepper exports to the US, with over 2,000 traps in place to ensure clean shipments. In 2022, Almería exported nearly 3,000 tons of fruits and vegetables to the US, accounting for 0.11% of the total.
