This year's harvest of 'Ulsan Ulju pears' is set to be exported to the United States...totaling 2.3 billion by the end of the year.

(Ulsan=Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Yeong-eun = The 2025 'Ulsan Ulju Pears', which have grown despite forest fires and low-temperature damage, have begun their journey to the U.S. market.

On the 18th, Ulju County held a welcome ceremony for the U.S. export of Ulju Pears at the Ulju Business Office of the Ulsan Horticultural Farmers Cooperative in Cheongryang-eup, attended by County Mayor Lee Soon-geul, County Council Chairman Choi Gil-yeong, the Chairman of the Ulsan Horticultural Farmers Cooperative, and representatives of the producing farms.

The exported Ulju Pears are of the early-ripening 'Wonhwang' variety, totaling 13.6 tons, valued at 65 million won.

Plans are in place to export a total of 305 tons, valued at 2.35 billion won, of Ulju Pears, including varieties such as 'Hwanggeum' and 'Singo', by ship by December.

In particular, this year's harvest of pears overcame the damage from the forest fire that occurred in Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup in March and the low-temperature damage during the flowering period.

To promote the excellence of Ulju Pears and to open up overseas markets, Ulju County will dispatch a promotional team to the U.S. in November, actively engaging in marketing activities such as local tasting events.

County Mayor Lee Soon-geul said, "We will instill pride in the farmers who have been preserving Ulsan's specialty products and will continue to seek various support measures to ensure the preservation of farmers' income."
