Thuringian fruit growers are facing significantly lower yields for both sweet and sour cherries this year due to frost events, with a yield of 1.8 tons per hectare for sweet cherries and 3.6 tons per hectare for sour cherries. This makes it a comparably low cherry harvest since 2002, with sweet cherry yield more than two thirds lower than the previous year and sour cherry yield almost two thirds lower. The expected harvest for sweet cherries is around 500 tonnes and for sour cherries around 580 tonnes, with cultivation areas of 277 hectares and 161 hectares respectively.
