The Central Rural Work Conference has emphasized the need for China to ensure the supply of primary products, with a focus on self-sufficiency in food and grain production. Despite a history of bumper harvests and achieving basic food self-sufficiency, the country faces a structural grain shortage and dependence on imports for soybeans and edible oil. The conference highlighted the need to increase self-sufficiency in soybean oil and strengthen grain and oil safety. This includes stabilizing the grain sown area, expanding soybean and oil crop production, and diversifying oil crop cultivation. Additionally, improving the economic benefits of grain and oil crops, supporting farmers, and developing agricultural services are crucial for ensuring food and oil safety.
