According to a report by Hortoinfo, based on data from Euroestacom, Morocco is catching up with Spain in terms of the volume of tomatoes sold in the European Union. Comparing the figures from January to October of the last 5 years, we see that Moroccan tomato exports to the EU increased by 38.05%, while those from Spain decreased by 24%. The latter sold 424.48 million kilos of tomatoes in the EU between January and October 2022, much less than the 558.29 million kilos sold in 2018. During the period from January to October, Morocco sold 404.99 million kilos of tomatoes on European markets, a quantity close to that sold by Spain. This is significantly more than the 293.37 million kilos sold in 2018. In general, purchases of tomatoes by EU members decreased by 5.18% compared to the same period five years ago.
