World Olive Day, marked on November 26, is a global initiative to celebrate and protect the olive tree, highlighting its cultural, economic, and environmental significance. This day was established by Unesco in 2019 to emphasize the olive tree's symbolic value of peace, wisdom, and harmony, as well as its environmental benefits such as preventing soil erosion and reducing CO2 emissions. Spain emerges as the leading producer of olives and olive oil, followed by Greece and Italy, with Morocco rounding out the top five. Peru, while not among the top producers, has seen growth in olive cultivation, with 43,000 hectares dedicated to the tree, and has experienced a rise in olive exports, both in volume and value, primarily to Spanish-speaking countries and Canada. However, there has been a slight decline in Peruvian olive oil exports in the 2020/2021 season.
