The Netherlands is set to have a banner year for onion exports in 2021, with expectations to reach 1.3 million tons, a 4% increase from the previous year. The country has seen strong domestic consumption and increased demand, with over half a million tons exported in the first 18 weeks. Europe's onion harvest has also seen a significant increase to 7.4 million tons. The Ivory Coast, Nicaragua, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are among the countries driving the growth in export volumes. Despite Brexit, the UK, Italy, and Finland have also increased their purchases.
