U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, the 22nd, that the CEOs of General Motors (GM), Mary Barra, and Ford Motor, Bill Ford, thanked him for taxing the import of small and medium trucks in the country, in a post on Truth Social.
According to Trump, the companies pointed out that without the tariffs it would be an "arduous task" to meet their skyrocketing demands. The Republican considers that the tariffs are a "National Security issue" to have a "strong and powerful economy."
The proclamation of the increase in tariffs on trucks was signed last Friday and will be in effect starting November 1st.
