The Tuna Association of Ecuador (Atunec) has expressed its disagreement with the decision of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries to keep certain offices in Quito, rather than in Manta and Guayaquil where the tuna industry is primarily based. Atunec argues that this move would increase costs and time inefficiencies. The Ministry has justified the decision citing security concerns, a reason Atunec disputes. The Ministry later clarified that only the lawyers of the coercive process and legal sponsorship have temporarily moved to Quito, while the offices of the Vice Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries will remain in Manta and Guayaquil.
