Turkey is set to see a significant increase in potato production in 2023 due to record seed potato imports, with the Netherlands being the primary supplier. This comes as a result of high local potato prices, which led to a government export ban in early 2023. The ban, also covering onions, has resulted in a substantial drop in potato exports. The high potato production is anticipated to lower prices and possibly expand export markets, potentially impacting Georgian growers and offering Uzbekistan a chance to diversify its imports. The devaluation of the Turkish lira is expected to further boost potato export prospects.
