Turkey's spice exports saw a 5% increase last year, reaching a value of 212 million dollars. The USA, Germany, and China were the main importers of these spices. The highest exports were made in thyme, bay leaves, and cumin, with thyme accounting for 30% of the total spice exports. Despite the potential for higher exports, a drought has reduced thyme production to 21 thousand tons, down from the predicted 23 thousand tons. The Aegean Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters' Association, which represents spice exporting companies, anticipates a minimum of a 5% increase in spice exports this year, with a potential for 212 million dollars to grow to 250 million dollars in the next 2-3 years.
