Turkey forecasts grain production to dip

In its first 2025 crop production estimate published May 23, Turkey’s wheat production was estimated to be 19.6 million tonnes, down 5.8% from a year earlier. Other major grain crops projected to fall were barley, 7.5 million tonnes, down 8%; rye, 243,000 tonnes, down 5.5%; and oats, 300,000 tonnes, down 23.1%. Corn production is expected to buck this trend in 2025, jumping 4.9% to 8.5 million tonnes year on year. Among oilseeds, sunflower production in 2025 is projected to increase 4.8% to 2.3 million tonnes, while soybeans are seen falling 11% to 160,000 tonnes. Within dry pulses, it was projected that chickpea, dry beans and red lentil production will be 605,000, 283,000 and 340,000 tonnes, respectively.
