The General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) in Turkey has begun the harvest season for thyme, a plant that is both economically important and contributes to the country's forestry income. In 2020, Turkey, which accounts for approximately 70% of the world's thyme exports, earned $69 million from these exports. The OGM plans to produce 420,000 thyme saplings in 2021. Thyme, found in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions, is used primarily as a spice but also in essential oils for the cosmetics and food industries.
