Turkey is the world leader in cherry production, with the country's provinces including Izmir, Manisa, Bursa, Konya, Afyonkarahisar, Isparta and Amasya contributing significantly to this output. The country also holds the top spot for cherry exports, with Germany being a key market that saw a fivefold increase in cherry imports from Turkey in May compared to the previous year, amounting to $17.37 million. This surge is linked to Germany's preparation for EURO 2024. Manisa, known for its early cherry crops, plays a crucial role in Turkey's cherry exports, particularly to the European Union. The region's cherry harvest season, which runs from April 15 to August, sees a significant portion of the produce exported, with Germany accounting for 55% of the fresh fruit and vegetable exports in May.
