Türkiye Şeker Fabrikaları A.Ş. (Türkşeker), Turkey's leading sugar company, under the leadership of General Manager Muhiddin Şahin, is encouraging beet production by increasing support for farmers to offset high input costs. The company's financial reports for 2019 and 2020 were discussed at the GNAT Public Economic Enterprises (SOE) Commission. Şahin highlighted the global sugar production figures for the 2021-2022 season and mentioned that Turkey's sugar production capacity is around 3.1 million tons, with 1.73 million tons produced from beet and 1.37 million tons from sugar cane. In 2020-2021, Türkşeker produced 1.72 million tons of sugar. The company has ended its privatization process and has stopped being a part of the privatization program, returning to its former state-owned enterprise (SEE) status. Şahin announced significant changes to the beet production incentives, including a higher advance price per ton, faster payments, more cash advances, and additional premiums for farmers who use specific equipment for beet cleaning and loading.
