Uganda experienced a significant increase in the value and volume of its coffee exports in August, as reported by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA). The country's exports in August reached US$221.63 million, a 13% increase from July, with a total of 837,915 bags of coffee exported, marking a 16,748 bag increase from July. From September 2023 to August 2024, Uganda's coffee exports totaled 6.39 million bags, valued at US$1.35 billion, a notable increase from the same period in 2022-2023. The UCDA credits the increase to bumper harvests in several coffee-producing regions and anticipates exports to reach 700,000 bags in September. Global coffee prices have also risen due to supply shortages caused by drought in Brazil and Vietnam, contributing to the increase in the value of Uganda’s exports. The European Union continues to be Uganda’s largest importer, receiving over 70% of the country’s coffee exports.
