In 2020, the UK imported over 5.7 million tons of vegetables and fruits, valued at nearly 6.4 billion pounds. Vietnamese produce contributions were worth around 11.6 million USD, accounting for 0.18% of the market. The UK imported 3.6 million tons of fruit, dominated by bananas from Colombia and Costa Rica, and grapes from South Africa and Spain. However, Vietnamese specialty fruits struggle to enter large supermarkets due to high air freight costs and quality standards required by the UK market. Vietnamese enterprises are encouraged to meet Global GAP and HCCP standards, ensure a stable supply, have a market access strategy, and master the technology of preserving and transporting fruits and vegetables by sea refrigerated containers.
