Ukraine is experiencing a significant decrease in sugar beet and sugar production, with the area under cultivation reduced by more than 1.6 million hectares and sugar production down to 1 million tons. Despite these challenges, the country still ranks among the top ten global producers of sugar beets and sugar. The largest areas for sugar beet cultivation are in Europe, with Russia, France, Poland, Germany, Italy, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, England, Belgium, and Ukraine being the leading countries. Oleksandr Zakharchuk, the head of the investment and logistics department at the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics," predicts that global sugar production could reach 200 million tons, with 70% coming from sugar cane and 30% from sugar beets. The use of modern technology, including genetically monoecious varieties and hybrids, could potentially yield up to 100 tons per hectare and have a sugar content of up to 20%.
