Ukraine is increasing production of durum wheat to make its own pasta.

Domestic pasta producers in Ukraine will, for the first time in the history of the country's independence, manufacture products using 50% wheat of the durum variety grown by Ukrainian farmers by 2025. This was stated by the director of the "Flour Mills of Ukraine" union, Rodion Rybchinsky, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine. According to him, in the production of pasta this year, 50% of the durum wheat varieties, which were previously purchased abroad, will be replaced by domestic raw materials. The expert predicts that if this trend continues, Ukraine will cease importing durum wheat within the next two years. Rybchinsky attributes the reasons for this import substitution to climate change in Ukraine. Currently, the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, and partially Vinnytsia regions are suitable for the production of durum wheat due to global warming.
