Ukraine is losing its own buckwheat due to the lack of support for farmers.

In Ukraine, buckwheat sowings have decreased from 300 thousand hectares to 70 thousand due to the lack of a state support program for the relevant industry. This was stated by the director of the International Buckwheat Association, Serhiy Hromoviy, as reported by UNIAN. "Our farmers, feeling the absence of state support in this direction, are constantly reducing sowings. One third of the buckwheat wedge is occupied by individual farmers. These are peasants who sow buckwheat in their gardens. There is a grandmother, she has a hectare of garden – half of it is buckwheat, a third is rye, and another third is potatoes. And she changes these proportions every year. Another third are small farmers, who have 50-200 hectares of land, and the last third are medium-sized farms," noted Hromoviy. According to him, agricultural holdings have completely abandoned buckwheat sowings. Hromoviy insists that the difficult situation in the buckwheat industry is a consequence of Russian expansion. ...
