Ukraine: Producers reduce prices for tomatoes in the face of reduced supply of vegetables

Ukrainian producers are forced to reduce tomato prices even in the face of a noticeable reduction in the supply of this product from local greenhouse plants, analysts of the EastFruit project report. According to market participants, the rise in tomato prices recorded in the previous week had an extremely negative impact on the pace of sales in this segment. This subsequently led to the accumulation of these products in warehouses, the quality of which is rapidly deteriorating. Today, the sale of the main volumes of greenhouse tomatoes is carried out within the range of 45-60 UAH/kg ($1.25-1.67/kg), which is on average 18% cheaper than at the end of the last working week. Manufacturers cite the main reason for the negative price trend in the greenhouse tomato segment as a sharp decline in demand for these products, as well as the quality of the tomatoes offered.
