Despite the reduction in salt imports in the first half of 2025, Ukraine remains dependent on supplies of this essential food product from abroad. Economic expert Oleh Pendzyn commented on this in a statement to UNIAN. "There are attempts to restore the production of rock salt near Drohobych – there is a small deposit there. And there is also one deposit in Zakarpattia. But neither there nor there can the total volume of salt extraction currently cover what was lost in Soledar. Therefore, we are actually dependent on imports," the specialist believes. Earlier, media reported, citing the State Customs Service, that in the first six months of this year Ukraine reduced salt imports by almost 50%. However, Pendzyn noted that the peak consumption of salt falls in the summer months, so the data for the first half of the year cannot be taken as forming the overall picture.
